STONE SCRAPERS

Mesolithic period

Mesolithic stone scrapers were essential tools used by hunter-gatherer communities between c. 10,000–4,000 BC. Usually made from flint, these tools were carefully knapped to create a sharp working edge, which was used for scraping and preparing animal hides, as well as working bone, wood, and other organic materials.

PARTIAL FLINT THICK-NECKED AXE

c. 4,500 - 2,200 BC

This may just look like a broken flint axe, however it is quite the interesting specimen as tells the story of how early humans crafted tools and reused quality material.
After this axe broke in ancient times, it was used as a makeshift 'flake block', showing evidence of many flakes being removed to create arrowheads and other microliths.

A large stone axe dating to the Neolithic period.
The specimen bears an antique label with an illegible locality, likely from a 19th century collection.

INDURATED LIMESTONE AXE
El Jaf, Morocco
Late Neolithic period

This Neolithic axe was crafted from indurated limestone, a hardened and compact form of limestone, and dates to approximately 2000 BC.
Found in the El Jaf region of Morocco, it represents the advanced stone-working skills of Neolithic communities in North Africa.

STONE AXE-HAMMER
Late Neolithic - Bronze Age
c. 3000 - 1500 BC
(~ 5,000 - 3,500 Years old)
This stone axe-hammer dates from the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age, c. 3000–1500 BC. Carefully shaped from stone, its narrowed waist would likely have helped secure the tool within a wooden haft, combining the functions of an axe and hammer for woodworking and other practical tasks.

BRONZE SOCKETED GOUGE
Devizes, Wiltshire, England

A socketed gouge crafted from bronze, excavated in Devizes, Wiltshire from a Bronze Age hoard.
Davids hand written label indicates "The hoard consisted of 5 or 6 bores, a plain loop finger ring, a coil type finger ring, a length from a bracelet, and this gouge."
