Dogtooth Calcite Cluster - Derbyshire, England
Dogtooth Calcite Cluster - Derbyshire, England

A striking calcite specimen dominated by well-formed dogtooth (scalenohedral) crystals developed on the surface of a tall massive habit calcite matrix.
The dogtooth crystals display reddish-orange terminations, likely due to iron-bearing inclusions such as hematite or iron sulphides incorporated during growth. The supporting matrix consists of white to pale cream massive calcite, partly terminated in areas, forming a substantial base to the crystal growth.
The specimen was found in Derbyshire, England, a county rich in minerals and mining history. It represents a two-stage growth history, with earlier formation of massive calcite followed by later development of scalenohedral crystal growth on the exposed surface.
Perfect for cabinet display.
Ex old mineral collection based out of Lancashire, North West England.
