A classic example of the tabulate coral Favosites, preserved in limestone from the historically significant English fossil locality of Dudley.
Dating to the Wenlock Series of the Silurian Period (approximately 430 million years ago), this specimen represents an ancient reef environment that thrived long before the age of dinosaurs.
The coral displays the distinctive honeycomb structure characteristic of Favosites, formed by tightly packed corallites. This natural pattern is well preserved and both scientifically important and highly desirable among collectors. Amongst the honeycomb structures, a small bivalve shell is preserved, having endured the process of fossilisation together over millions of years.
Measuring 71mm x 64mm x 42mm, it’s a well-sized, tactile piece with strong presence — ideal for display.
This specimen also comes with an original handwritten label, adding authenticity and provenance.
