A beautifully preserved fossil crab, Neptunus monspeliensis, from the Pliocene deposits of Sardinia (~5.3–2.6 million years ago).
This specimen retains a highly detailed carapace with two arms and pincers clearly visible and outstretched, offering excellent three-dimensional detail and a strong sense of the original animal’s form.
The crab is preserved in natural matrix, with attractive colour contrast between the fossil and surrounding stone, enhancing both its visual appeal and display quality. The fine surface detail across the carapace and limbs makes this a particularly well-defined and characterful example of the species.
