A large ammonite specimen preserving well-defined whorl structure and intricate suture patterns. The shell retains strong three-dimensional ribbing across the preserved whorls, with areas of deep red and orange mineral staining enhancing surface definition.
The specimen is mostly complete, with loss to a portion of the outer whorl, resulting in a slightly irregular overall outline. Due to size of the fossil in its current state of preservation, it’s evident that in life this would have been an ammonite of very significant size.
The reverse of the specimen preserves attached fossil bivalves, indicating a shared depositional environment and post-mortem association on the seafloor.
The fossil is a beach find from Dorset, England, a region well known for Jurassic marine deposits. The specimen has been stabilised with Paraloid B72, consistent with standard conservation practice.
