These are confirmed to be GENUINE strands of hair belonging to the Mammuthus primigenius (Woolly Mammoth), sourced responsibly from Tamiyr, Siberia, Russia.

Woolly mammoths (Mammuthus primigenius) roamed the northern continents during the Late Pleistocene Epoch, approximately 30,000–50,000 years ago. Adapted to Ice Age climates, these majestic creatures were covered in thick fur, which helped them survive frigid temperatures, wind, and snow.

Preserved mammoth hair, like this specimen, is extremely rare. It is often only recovered from permafrost or sedimentary deposits, where natural conditions prevent decay.

Scientists study mammoth hair to gain insights into the species’ diet, migration patterns, seasonal behaviors, and even genetics, making it a valuable resource for both paleontology and archaeology. Mammoth hair has been successfully used by scientists to extract ancient DNA and proteins, helping research their relationship to modern elephants and other extinct species. Alongside this scientists researching Mammuthus Primiginus hair discovered that the natural variant of colour from dark brown to caramel and reddish tones , reflects differences in age, genetics, and preservation conditions between individuals.

The permafrost season in Siberia is brief, and material can only be collected for a few weeks each year, this combined with current regional high tensions makes the availability of authentic Siberian material very low, making this a unique collectors item.
